F-22 Air Dominance Fighter

F-22 Air Dominance Fighter Review

This is a great game, but there are a few things to consider before buying it.

It seems like there were dozens of flight sim games based on the F-22, though that’s only because their publishers each released patched versions and sequels in rapid succession, each making evolutionary improvements to the older versions. “F-22/ADF” was the early version of DiD’s F-22 game, lacking the AWACS component of its sequel, TAW (”Total Air War”). For a game that was rushed into production (DiD didn’t want the missing AWACS component to cause the company lag behind publishers of inferior F-22 games) ADF still tops the competition. Featuring DiD’s no-nonensense graphics, sound and flight model (the game is a welcome middle-ground between crude “survey sims” like ATF or USNF, and more complicated “hardcore games” like “Flanker 2.5″ or Jane’s Longbw), ADF is a game you’ll find easy to get into and hard to put down. Though the game shows its roots to EF2000, the power differences between F-22 (with its thrust vectoring, and much more powerful engines) and EF2000 translates to an F-22 that’s much easier to fly. On the down side, F-22’s avionics suite is confined to three MFD’s, not unlike EF2000, but a come down after the mouse-clickable cockpit of “iF-22″. Also, when compared to EF2000, much of the avionics seems redundant (three different buttons handle the same job) as if the F-22 design team realized that they had more space than they knew what to do with.

The biggest downside of all is the missing AWACS element, in which you run an air war from your seat on a command plane like teh E-3, able to jump into any F-22 on your board if you want to get up close and personal. For that, you’ll need to get TAW. Since TAW includes the F-22 sim, and isn’t an add-on for ADF, the earlier game is pretty superfluous.

Another problem is graphics, which are great, but imperfect – especially if you want to run better than 800X600. While teh game supports graphics acceleration, it probably requires a Glide compliant card – this is an old game – and I haven’t been able to get it to run in real 3d on my “Open GL” system. Like many old games, it suffers the dominance of an earlier age in which the top ards were made by 3DFX.

Still, if you can pick this game up, you’ll still have one of the better F-22 simulations.

Race Pro

Race Pro Review

First of all, this game is fun. I read a review elsewhere that claimed the graphics weren’t very good; I completely disagree – I think they’re brilliant on XBox 360.

The sim isn’t as realistic as I expected. Now, I need to qualify all of this: I’m no Michael Schumacher and I know it! I’m not much of a racer, sim or otherwise. That said, I have a fair amount of sim experience (VirtualGT, GP Legends, GT Legends, et cetera, going back 10 years or so). So, I’m NO braggart! I’m just being honest.

Even on professional mode, it’s not very difficult. I expected the level of the PC Legends games – Grand Prix Legends and GT Legends, et cetera. It’s a great sim for an arcade game, but it’s a lower level “sim” game. I understand the need to reach the masses and work on controllers, but with the wheel and pedal setup in professional mode, this game isn’t realistically difficult. The handling of the cars is about 6/10ths or so, they seem to try to make it more realistic by bouncing you around or something.

Anyway, my real gripe is that in order to drive all of the cars, you have to unlock them in the most tedious way ever – going through boring races. It’s annoying! You blow through these races, but it takes forever and it’s boring. I wish Atari and SimBin had made a choice to either go hardcore or go arcade. The fact that they went ‘tweener is a real bummer. Had they gone hardcore, with tough races for 10-15 laps races (30-100 lap races as you get more difficult), it might be okay. But instead you just have to sort of droll through it all to get to the good cars.

The tracks are awesome! The graphics are great! The simulation is okay, but the unlocking cars is irritating.

Anyway, it really is a fun game, but not quite what I expected. I hope that helps!

Backyard Baseball 2010

Backyard Baseball 2010 Review

We got this game for my son and he loves it not just for the solo game play but because you don’t have to be a big baseball fan or a gamer to win the game. This means that when we have a family game night, this is one of the ones that always gets pulled out.

The special pitches and the bat that allows you to hit a baseball 186,000 miles makes the game a little sillier but also more fun for those non-baseball purists in the house. It won’t replace MLB: The Show but at the same time, it’s designed to be a fun little game for those that probably aren’t at the stage of making the double switch.

Backyard Baseball 2010 Feature

  • Updated roster of MLB pros David Ortiz, Ken Griffey Jr., Ryan Howard, Ken Griffey Jr., Ichiro, Vladimir Guerrero, and Ryan Howard
  • All 32 MLB team plus 11 Backyard Teams
  • Season play w/stats & standings
  • Tournament & All Star Modes
  • Single play, mini games, power ups

Backyard Baseball 2010 Overview

All new and better than ever! The #1 kids’ baseball video game is back for a ninth season and is packed with a magical combination of realistic sports action and crazy arcade fun. The ultimate kids’ sports experience, Backyard Baseball ’10, features all 32 MLB teams along with a roster of current pros as kids. The game also includes season play with complete stats, tournament mode, minigames, as well as multiple levels of difficulty. New this year, Backyard Baseball ’10 features new fields, enhanced game play, new batting and pitching control schemes, personalized name announcing, and an additional camera angle that puts the camera behind the batter.

H.H. Wheel Pro Racer

H.H. Wheel Pro Racer Review

I got this on a whim, and it’s definitely worth it. It was purchased for GT3, Tokyo Extreme, Rumble Racing, and Burnout. Since I’m not a Nascar fan I didn’t bother trying it with those games. For starters it’s very different, taking about 30 minutes to an hour to get used to. Once you get into a groove with it you should select one of the two sensitivities depending on the game and your driving style. Using GT3 as an example, I chose my best car and set a baseline in Laguna Senca and then tried to match it using this controller after 3 laps I managed to shave off 4 seconds off my best time. Thinking it was a fluke I put the regular Dual Shock 2 back in and tried to match my new time with no luck. With that said I’m quite happy with this controller, but it doesn’t come without problems.

My first gripe, there is no left Y-Axis or right analog stick. So using this with GTA3 is out of the question, it’s a pitty too because that would make this a must have. Next up, the complaints about it having a dead point are right on, but I find the dead point useful because letting go while turning will set it back to center without turning the opposite direction. The last problem I have with this controller, size. If it had maybe half an inch more room between the grip and the body it would be perfect.

Keep in mind that this controller is for the budget minded, if you want the best wheel, you’d buy the Logitech Driving Force Wheel … or the Momo version of that wheel for roughly 0. I’d give this controller a try if you haven’t messed with any racing wheels for the Playstation or Playstation 2.

Great concept, but the newer model is much better – Aaron Silverman – Boynton Beach, FL, United States
The concept is fantastic — a wheel that doesn’t require a mythical table of exactly the right height in front of your TV or foot pedals. However, this wheel is a little small, and the buttons are very hard convex plastic. Playing for any length of time will make your button fingers very sore.

The newer version, the blue and black Gamester Pro Racer, is far superior. It’s bigger and more accurate, and the buttons are concave and softer. I have both, and the new version is definitely the one to get.
Must Have #… – –
This wheel is a must have for Racing games. I did not know what I was missing until I got this.
